There are more than 60 neighborhoods in Istanbul where Roma live. Most of these are poor neighborhoods. However, İzzetpaşa neighborhood in Şişli, which is always under the shadow of high-rise residences, is one of the poorest neighborhoods. Elmas Arus summarizes Yıldız Street, where the İzzet Paşa Community Center is located, with the sentence: "I have visited over 400 Roma neighborhoods in many cities in Turkey, but I have never seen another neighborhood so poor and so central to the city.

The Roma population in the neighborhood, which was home to around 8,000 people when the center was established, is estimated to be around 1500.  The literacy rate is estimated at 20%. Children in the neighborhood, which was in the grip of deep poverty, were either unable to go to school or were dropping out of school over time. With the community center it established here, Zero Discrimination is trying to offer an opportunity for change for both children and women.  On a street with houses without roofs, bathrooms or kitchens, the İzzet Paşa Community Center has pioneered not urban transformation but on-site transformation. The association supports the Roma community in the settlement to adapt to social change and overcome problems arising from discrimination. The activities carried out in this context are as follows:
